巧记单词巧辨易混词五组 含练习题

　　1. increase, grow和add

　　要点点拨:①increase作动词或名词,着重体积、数量、强度、程度、力量、权威、名声、财富等的增加或增强;②add是动词,指将某物加在另一物上,使之在数量、体积、重要性等方面有所增加;③grow作不及物动词,表示“增长”与increase意义基本相同,但grow还另含有“生长、发育、种植等”之意。

　　2. go on doing sth., go on with sth.和go on to do sth.

　　要点点拨:go on 意思是“继续下去”:① go on doing sth.指“不停地做某事”或中断后再“继续”做原来的事情。② go on with + (名词) 表示暂停之后“继续做前面没有做完的事情”,相当于go on doing sth.。③ go on to do sth. 表示“接着做另外一件事情”,指前后做的不是同一件事。

　　3. but, however, still和yet  

　　要点点拨:① but是并列连词,表示转折,意思是“但是、而是”等。②however用作连词时较but正式,但词义弱一些,并不直接引出相反的意见,因此常用作插入语。③still用作连词时表示仍然在继续或仍未发生,位于所描述的情况之前,是“还是、依然”等之意。④yet作连词的含义是:即使作出极端的让步,也不会发生期待的结果,常译作“然而、可是”等。

　　4. road, street 和way

　　要点点拨:① road意为“路”;“道路”,指供车辆或行人通过的大道。② street意为“街道”,指城镇、乡村任何两旁有建筑物的路。“在街上”可以说on the street,也可以说in the street,前者是美国英语,后者是英国英语。说“在……街的第几号”时要用介词at。③way意为“道路”,指street, road或任何可以通行的路,含义较抽象。口语中问路时常用way; way还可指路程、距离;方式、方法等。

　　5. hard和hardly

　　要点点拨:① hard可用作形容词或副词。用作形容词时意为“困难的”,“硬的”,“勤奋的”,“严厉的”,“苛刻的”;用作副词时,意为“努力地”,“猛烈地”, “剧烈地”。②hardly是副词,意为“几乎不”,多和can连用,接近almost not,也可表示“几乎没有”的意思,和any连用时,相当于almost not。
