if引导的条件状语从句的主从复合句中,主句用一般将来时,从句用一般现在时。

13.mind名词“头脑”,也可表示“内心;心思;想法”。

14.calm动词“平静下来;镇静下来”。
calm down冷静
At last the wild wind calmed down. 狂风最终平息了。
calm作及物动词,表示“使……平静/镇静”;
作形容词,表示“平静的;镇静的”;
作名词,表示“平静:镇静”
The mother calmed her child. 母亲使她的孩子平静了下来,

living作前置定语或表语

19.break动词“打破;损坏,破坏”
The machine broke down at the busy hour. 正忙的时候,机器坏了。
He broke the window. 他打破了窗户。
break down①“(车辆或机器)出故障”,
②“失败;(身体等)垮掉”
He broke down because of overwork. 他因过度工作身体垮掉了。
break名词“间隔;破裂;(课间或工作中间)休息;停顿”等
We have a ten minute break between two class.
在两节课之间我们有十分钟的体息时间。
20.because of “因为;由于”+名词、代词或动词-ing形式。
She walked slowly because of her old age. 她因为年龄大了行走缓慢。

21. when当...的时候,指时间点或时间段
从句中的谓语动词是延续性动词,也可以是短暂性动词
while在....的时候;在...期间,指时间段

=while,强调两个动作同时发生,或某一发生,另一件事立即发生
He ate popcorn as he watched the film. 他一边看电影,一边吃爆米花。
I was startled as he opened the door. 他一开门,我吓了一跳。
②连词=when
He began to learn to play the piano as a little boy/when he was a little boy.
当他是个小男孩的时候就开始学习弹钢琴了。
22. as...as possible尽可能…… =as...as one can,as中间用形容词或者副词
as soon as possible尽早=as soon as one can
I will give you a call as soon as possible. 我将尽快给你打电话。
23.burn①可数名词“烧伤,烫伤,灼伤”
He had two X-ray burns on the back. 他背上有两处X射线灼伤。
②及物动词“燃烧;烧着;烧毁”,+名词或代词作宾语
The cigarette burned a hole in the paper. 香烟把纸烧了个洞。
23. headache名词“头痛”,是由“head(头)+ache(疼痛)”构成的复合名词
have a headache意为“头痛”。
英语中表达“身体某部位疼痛”时,常用“身体部位+ache”构成的复合词。
tooth+ache→toothache牙疼
back+ache→backache 背疼
24. nearly副词“几乎,差不多”
not nearly“远非,绝不是”。
It's nearly ten o'clock. 差不多10点了。
He fell off a tree and nearly died. 他从树上摔下来,几乎丧命。
almost与nearly
①两者都可用来修饰不定代词、形容词、副词、动词、介词短语等,此时两者常可换用。
It's almost/nearly impossible. 那几乎是不可能的。
He almost/nearly always arrives late. 他差不多总是迟到。
②almost可用于any以及no,none,nobody,nothing,never等表示否定意义的单词之前,但nearly一般不这样用。
Almost any man can do it. 几乎任何人都会做。
Almost no one came to the party. 几乎没有人来参加聚会。
两者都可用在动词的否定形式之前。
He almost/nearly didn't catch the bus. 他差点没赶上公共汽车。
25. the next morning第二天早上
×以过去某一时间为准,说“第二天早上”用the next morning,常与一般过去时或×过去将来时连用,这种情况多用于间接引语;以现在时间为准,说“第二天早上”
tomorrow morning,与一般将来时连用。
.He said we would start the next morning.
他说我们将于第二天早上动身。
26. clear动词“清除”,强调的是“除后”的“清”
clear up意为“打扫,整理”
He cleared a small space on his desk for a cup of coffee.
他在书桌上腾出了一小块空间用来放一杯咖啡。
